About Leeds

Leeds is the largest city in Yorkshire. It is home to about 750,000 people which makes it the 3rd largest city in the UK. Its history dates back to the 5th century when it is mentioned as a wooded area ‘Loidis’ in the Brythonic Kingdom of Elmet. It began to rose to prominence in the 17th and 18th century when it established itself as a major wool manufacturing and trading centre, and especially during the Industrial Revolution when it emerged as both commercial and cultural centre of West Yorkshire. Today, the city is the 4th largest economy (urban) in the UK.
